Read a zoning ordinance for what it permits by right
Lesson 2 of 6 · From flip to development
1 · Learn the move · Fact-check list
A use table is the page everyone reads and the definitions article is the page that decides. A model asked 'can I build this here?' will confidently recall a setback or a permitted use that is wrong for your district, because zoning is written town by town and changes by amendment. The move is a fact-check list with two columns of discipline. Every requirement - the use, the setbacks, coverage, buffers - carries its quoted section, or it reads UNKNOWN. And every use is checked twice: once against the table's letter code, and again against the defined term the table relies on, because a program can match a use's name and fail its definition. The output sorts your program into three piles: permitted by right as the text reads, needing a discretionary approval, and depending on an interpretation. Silence stays silence. The zoning administrator makes the determination, and land-use counsel reads anything that will carry money.
Here is my program and the pasted zoning excerpts. For each part of the program, quote the use table entry and the definition it relies on, and every dimensional standard, with section numbers. Anything the excerpts do not state is UNKNOWN. Then sort the program: by right, discretionary approval, depends on an interpretation.
2 · Your turn. You write the prompt
You hold 6.8 acres [plat] in the Town of Morlane Bend's HC Highway Commercial district and are weighing a storage use: buildings of drive-up units plus an outdoor yard for boats and RVs. You have pasted the use table rows, the table key, the HC dimensional table, and the definition of mini-warehouse. You have not pasted Sec. 9.4, which the table cites. Write the prompt that tells you what the text actually permits by right.
Write the prompt for this scenario as given, or swap in a real one from your own work. The score works the same either way.
Remember: the AI sees only your prompt, not this page. If the situation isn't in your prompt, it doesn't exist.
Optional. These shape the output when you run your prompt below, not your score.
